Prosecutors: East Cleveland woman, 59, strangled by estranged husband

on January 23, 2014

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio— Authorities said on Thursday that a 59-year-old woman was strangled inside her apartment and prosecutors have charged her estranged husband in connection with her death.

Kenneth Booker, 54, was charged Thursday with aggravated murder in East Cleveland Municipal Court. Judge William L. Dawson set bond at $1 million and his case was bound over to a Cuyahoga County grand jury to decide how the case will proceed.

Prosecutors on Thursday said Booker is accused of strangling to death Carolyn Blair, 59, of East Cleveland  inside her apartment. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has not yet officially ruled on the death.

East Cleveland Prosecutor Willa Hemmons said in court and in an interview with the Northeast Ohio Media Group that she observed Booker and Blair walking out of the Cuyahoga County Justice Center about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, some four hours before Blair was found dead.

Hemmons said Booker loudly cursed at Blair from the time they left the justice center to Tower City.

“They were right in front of me and I heard him yelling at her,” Hemmons said. “So I lagged behind to make sure nothing happened. I was kind of afraid something might.”

Hemmons said she overheard Booker telling a relative he was planning to visit the relative’s home later in the day, which is where police eventually arrested Booker on suspicion of murder.

Booker, according to detectives, Hemmons and a search of court records, has been convicted of domestic violence five times since 1989.

He was convicted of domestic violence against Blair twice, once in 2001 and once in 2013.

Booker pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony domestic violence in the 2013 case was sentenced to two years probation.

Police records say Booker was arrested March 22, 2013 after Booker threatened to shoot her with a .22-caliber handgun, which reports say they confiscated after the arrest.

Booker on Nov. 22 completed the county’s treatment program and was ordered that he attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings three times per week.

Tory Bryant admits setting fire to his mother’s Springfield house

By Buffy Spencer, The Republican
on September 24, 2013

Tory Bryant’s mother Rosalyn Bryant asked Judge Tina S. Page in Hampden Superior Court on Tuesday to find a way to get him help he needs.

Rosalyn Bryant said her son would never have set her house on fire – with her, his 5-year-old daughter, and another 7-year-old inside – if he hadn’t been drunk and high on drugs.

Page said since she was appointed to the bench 15 years ago, she has repeatedly talked about the need for a secure facility to which she could sentence people with mental-health issues such as the 24-year-old Bryant.

But since there is no such facility, Page imposed a 2 1/2- to four-year sentence to state prison. Tory Bryan pleaded guilty to charges, admitting he set the fire at the family home.

Assistant District Attorney Clarissa A. Wright showed Page photos of the Rosewell Street house, which had about $40,000 in damage as a result of the fire. Bryant’s mother, daughter and the other girl got out safely after the alarm sounded, and they saw smoke, according to the prosecutor. Continue reading

NA Meetings Disrupts California Chico State University Student Neighborhood by Harassing Young Women

This building on Cherry Street holds Narcotics Anonymous meetings in a student neighborhood. PHOTO BY TOM GASCOYNE

Here is another neighborhood having problems with NA Meetings. We can sure relate to this in our parks in Holly Hill Florida Volusia County. We have both AA and NA meetings with a long history of violating park rules and threatening and harassing citizens. I hope these Chico students can get some relief.

Unease over location of Narcotics Anonymous meetings

By
tomg@newsreview.com  This article was published on .

The landlords and parents of Chico State students who reside near the intersection of Cherry and Sixth streets are a bit up in arms these days over a new neighbor who’s moved into the building that for years housed Ed’s Printing.

The new neighbor is technically the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, a local church that hosts Narcotics Anonymous meetings in the building. The meetings began in May. The building, located at 550 Cherry St., is owned by the “Gordon G. Living Grier Trust.”

The concerns voiced by the landlords and parents are directed at the people who come to the 17 weekly NA meetings, stand outside the building and smoke cigarettes, and, according to some, spread needles on the sidewalks. They also allegedly go through trash receptacles and make unsavory remarks to the young women who live nearby or walk past on their way to school. AA and NA Daytona Meetings in Port Orange and Holly Hill.

Robert Combs is the parent of a student currently attending Chico State. He says his daughter and roommate had to move out of a nearby house because of the presence of attendees at the NA meetings. Combs is a Chico State graduate and is president of the school’s Parent Advisory Council.

In an email titled “Has Chico Lost its Sense of Place?” Combs writes that his daughter “was very concerned to see those seeking counseling were loitering outside the facility prior to meetings, smoking, going through the students’ garbage and making lewd comments to our young adults, many of whom are on their own for the first time.” Continue reading

AA Member Arrested While Attending AA Meeting at Church For Stealing Car

AA member  Brian Michael Mulrooney, 23, was arrested for stealing a vehicle at an AA meeting being held in a church. This man resisted arrest and head butted a police officer. Churches need to be very careful about allowing AA meetings.

Church pastors need to review their Insurance policies to see if it covers the AA meetings, and also to require the AA and NA meetings to provide insurance to the church that includes Sexual Abuse Molestation Liability Insurance because the courts are mandating 3rd level sexual predators to AA meetings along with rapists. Is this really what they want for their church? It is quite possible that Brian Michael Mulrooney was court mandated as well.I wonder how many minors got to witness this violent arrest?

Woman Shot At Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting On Church Property

When are the churches going to wise up to the dangers they are bringing into their churches by renting to AA and NA groups ? Many groups do not carry insurance, and the insurance carriers are typically unaware of these agreements the churches have with court mandated felons(including sexual predators) receiving the required meetings in their meeting halls. Many meetings take place while activities involving children are on church property. Some pastors have been made aware of sexual offenders at the AA/NA meetings when children are on church property, and they have refused to do anything. When are these people going to put the children first?

The struggle spilled out into the parking lot, where one of the men pulled a handgun. His shot was aimed at the husband, but hit the woman in the car instead, as the vehicle veered across the street and into a fence on the other side. The suspect, described as a Latino male around 20 years old, fled the scene. The victim was taken to LA County USC Medical Center, where her condition was described as stable. Alcoholics Anonymous Blames The Victim Of Sexual Abuse

This is just heartbreaking and typical AA mantra of the “what was your part in it” line. It is not an uncommon line when you are sexually harassed at meetings and complain.
Alcoholics Anonymous does nothing to prevent sexual abuse by their members.
They actually invite sexual predators to meetings along with children and teens!
