Kennedy man could spend nearly 2 years in jail for shooting dog in face

An Allegheny County judge on Tuesday sentenced a Kennedy man to six to 23 months in jail for shooting his girlfriend’s dog in the face just a few feet from their 5-week-old son.
“The facts of this case, to me, are outrageous,” Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani told Brian Foley, 29, whom the judge convicted in January of cruelty to animals and recklessly endangering another person. “Maybe you were drunk. But being drunk was no excuse for shooting a dog in a cage in the face.” Holly Hill Police Department Complaints.
Foley, who has attended more than 100 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and received his nine-month sobriety coin since the May 18 incident at his then-fiancee’s home along Moon Run Road in Robinson, got his commercial driver’s license and planned to start a job this week, said his attorney, Kenneth Fryncko Jr. Daytona AA Meetings Sunrise Park.

Police said Foley was drinking heavily at a backyard campfire the night of the shooting, before going inside the house. Brandi Francis, his former fiancée with whom he since has reconciled, told police she was outside smoking when she heard a gunshot. When Foley’s father, Robert Foley, characterized the shooting as an “accident,” Mariani interrupted and told him he wouldn’t listen if he was going to proclaim his son’s innocence.
“He did mean to do this. (The gun) was pointed at a dog in a cage. That dog had no ability to move,” Mariani said. “You can’t make up for this after the fact.” Holly Hell Holly Hill Fl.

Another person trying to get a lighter sentence by going to AA! I wonder what percentage of people in AA are criminals of some kind. Things are a bit different in the UK where you don’t have courts sending people in the same way, but I would still say it is quite a high percentage.
I went to London meetings and reckon about 20% as a rough guess but can’t remember seeing any real statistics.
In Holly Hill Florida the meetings in the parks it seemed to me like the majority are court ordered. You see lots of court papers being signed. Daytona Beach has a large Drug Court and it has a large drug and crime problem, including Holly Hill. I think it drives away those that are not mandated.
I realize in the UK courts do not mandate quite the same way, but they seem to go about it in different ways. In the US it is really bad. The UK is more secular, and is most likely less tolerant of religion being forced upon them.Of course in the US religion is not supposed to be forced, but what the heck it is only our constitutional rights being trampled left and rights by Judges and other court related entities including employers.
Poor dog was in a cage and knew it’s attacker. What a horrible cruel thing to do. Then he marches to 100 AA meetings in hopes to get a lighter sentence. Looks like the judge was not impressed and he will get jail time.
