This NA Member who hosted NA Meetings actually made people become NA Members to buy drugs from him after the 12 step meetings. These NA Members never cease to amaze me with their criminal behavior. NA and AA Daytona Beach Area Meetings in Daytona, Holly Hill,Ormond Beach.
Man admits selling drugs after Narcotics Anonymous meetings
SEATTLE (AP) – A man who hosted support meetings for drug and alcohol addicts has pleaded guilty to a federal drug conspiracy charge, after admitting he was selling morphine, oxycodone and other drugs before and after the meetings.
Michael Martin Shepard was arrested in March. The 65-year-old ran the Nomadian Community Resource Center in South Seattle and hosted Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings there.
According to a plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court on Friday, Shepard insisted that customers become members of the resource center before he would sell to them. Authorities who executed a search warrant at the resource center, where Shepard also lived, found two guns.
Shepard faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in January.
What 4thechildren said is an absolute lie the meeting spaces for 12 step groups are usually kept safe by the members for the members. This particular case is an extreme case and not the norm. As I would agree that this is sad and an example of one mans greed and foolishness, “this is not the norm.”
Actually Tom this website is full of stories of violence and unsafe situations in 12 step meetings! This is because neither AA or NA want to do anything about the growing problem of crime by steppers.
As far as people selling drugs at meetings or in the parking lot is not uncommon. That is where some of the best drugs are found!
The sale of drugs is quite common at these totally unsupervised anonymous rehab meetings which are largely attended by court mandated individuals as a condition of their early release from jail!
I have personally witnessed members from these groups, which meet in the parks/playgrounds, going into single stall bathrooms in groups of 2 or 3 at a time. Why would they need to do that?
I have also spoken with people who have been familiar with the dynamics of these organizations for years who informed me these meetings have long had a reputation as being “ hookup spots” for locals and people passing through who are looking for drugs, sex, or simply a place to go to prey on vulnerable people and get away with it.
A total lack of supervision, accountability and the irresponsible unwillingness of these twelve-step organizations to adapt any safety guidelines whatsoever enables and facilitates this activity!
When someone is abused or speaks out about a problem they often face being ostracized by the group as facilitators scramble to cover it all up to protect the image of their group.
