A man with a child porn addiction that had been found to have over 6690 images and videos, including rape and bestiality is sponsoring other AA members? The Judge thinks this is a good thing?! Anyone can be a Sponsor in AA and NA. This is proof!
Court sets child porn addict Donald Judge, 69, free
HE downloaded thousands of images of child pornography but a judge has spared a grandfather time in jail after saying his “compulsory personality” was behind his depraved behavior.
Judge Ronald Solomon told the court 69-year-old Donald Judge had progressed from alcohol to child pornography. The District Court was told Judge had battled addictions to gambling and alcohol, and had for the past 10 years been “addicted” to pornography.
“It comes as a surprise to me that an alcoholic would divert to pornography but that appears to be the case,” Judge Solomon said.
Some of Judge’s fellow members of Alcoholics Anonymous sat at the back of the District Court to support him.
Victims groups were shocked yesterday to learn that there is no way to appeal against the new sentence.
The judge allowed Judge’s appeal against his 18-month jail sentence imposed at Manly Local Court last year.
Instead he was given a suspended sentence, 250 hours of community service and ordered to enroll in a Sex Offenders Program.
He had pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material.
Some of it was discovered on Judge’s laptop by a computer repairer in February last year.
The repairer contacted police, who seized several hard drives, 16 DVDs and two more computers from Judge’s Whale Beach home.
They found 6690 images of child pornography and 2382 videos. They included rape and bestiality.
Judge Solomon said it appeared the grandfather had collected child pornography for about 10 years.
“The young persons who are involved in the films and the videos and the photographs are exploited … each time the images are viewed the exploitation continues,” he said.
But Judge Solomon said he took into account Judge’s age and health issues, and the fact that he had “taken all steps” to assist himself in overcoming his addiction and had mentored people in Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Daily Telegraph revealed earlier this week that child sex offenders were getting lesser sentences than financial criminals. Bravehearts criminologist and head of research Carol Ronken said the courts had to send a clear message that “child sexual assault, in all its forms will not be tolerated”.
“Behind every photo and every video is a child sexually harmed. There is absolutely no excuse for child sexual exploitation,” Ms Ronken said.
A spokeswoman for the DPP said there was no “mechanism for the DPP to appeal the inadequacy of a sentence imposed by the District Court from an appeal from the Local Court”.
This story continues to sicken me. There is no way if more parents only knew that this kind of thing is common practice between our very broken legal “system” and the racket that is AA… There would be a HUGE outcry from the parents.
I think addiction has such a deep stigma to it that people are not willing to speak up about issues related to AA and NA. REALLY…
AA and NA have become very influential and powerful…no one really wants to address these seedy issues…but like what happened with the Catholic church these things will reach a tipping point.
