An intoxicated homeless man is accused of being so boisterous that he disrupted an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at a club for recovering addicts Feb. 9 in Waukesha.

Jacob J. Smith, 34, is charged with resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and $11,000 in fines.

According to the complaint:

The Waukesha Police Department was dispatched to a report at 7:48 p.m. that Smith was creating a disturbance at the Alano Club, 318 W. Broadway.

A witness told police Smith was yelling on Broadway outside the Alano Club, and when Smith told the witness he was homeless, the witness brought him food and coffee.

Smith started screaming obscenities, yelling and causing a disturbance in the club. Members of an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting stopped their discussion to discover why there was a commotion, the witness told police.

Police found Smith laying on the ground but lifted him up. Smith had a .267 percent blood alcohol concentration.

During the investigation, Smith went dead weight against an officer – passively resisting. Smith became upset, saying he was “dissatisfied” with police and swore at the police.

As police escorted Smith to the squad car, he started to tense up his muscles and appeared ready to headbutt an officer.

Smith was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital because the Waukesha County Jail would not immediately clear him with the high blood alcohol concentration.

Smith had 35 prior adult arrests, having been release from jail just nine days before the incident at the Alano Club.
