AA member Brenda Geers is in a lot of trouble for allegedly smashes her car into the very church she was to attend her AA meeting! So much for the idea that AA members are just a group of sober people getting on with their lives.
Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Church On Way to Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting
Boulder, CO — Does driving to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting when you’re already drunk sound like a good idea for anyone?
A 73-year-old alleged drunk motorist behind the wheel of an SUV hit a pedestrian on Wednesday afternoon after clipping a food truck and then crashed into a church where she was to attend an AA meeting.
Police identified the suspect in the accident as Brenda Geers. According to the CBS Denver affiliate, “Officers said she first collided with a food truck in the parking lot and then hit Eric Anderson at a table, then smashed into the church.” Anderson, 18, a University of Colorado student, was apparently thrown about 30 feet. He is in fair condition at a local hospital with with a punctured lung and broken ribs, but is expected to be okay.
There were about 20 people in the vicinity of the food truck at the time outside of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. According to the food truck owner, “Saw an SUV cross the front of the windshield and take out the table right behind me. He ended up wrapped up with the car right around the railing and by that tree.” He also said the truck “shook like an earthquake” owing to the impact of the crash.
Geers, who apparently failed a sobriety test, faces DUI and vehicular assault charges. She was not injured in the crash but is being held on a $,5000 bond in Boulder County Jail.

To whoever wrote this story, You must be in Denial. Maybe you should attend an AA meeting…Hmmmm
I hope that this church and all other property owners who have graciously trusted Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous to be responsible and accountable while holding meetings on their property, make sure that they have EXTREMELY GOOD INSURANCE COVERAGE!
The truth is that these organizations, with their autonomous, anonymous meetings have made it clear to anyone who inquiries, that they are neither responsible or accountable for anything that happens during their meetings involving their members. They even voted to NOT implement any safety or security guidelines for meetings!
JUST CALL THEIR HEADQUARTERS AND ASK!
A huge percentage of the people attending these meetings are repeat offenders sent to meetings straight from jail over and over again. Many of these people ,who continue to fall through the cracks, suffer from serious untreated coexisting mental and emotional disorders! They are assigned unqualified, nonprofessional addict sponsors to be their counselors. These individuals are then expected to comply with the counsel of their unqualified addict/sponsor in order to pass the qualifications and terms of their early release from jail. Assigning unqualified people to counsel these troubled individuals is completely irresponsible and potentially harmful and dangerous for all involved!
Churches have had to deal with all kinds of problems from these HIGH RISK, unsupervised, non-accountable anonymous meetings such as sexual molestation, assault with deadly weapons, theft and arson to name a few. A case of theft and arson in a church, committed by an AA member after an AA meeting, is documented in an article a few posts up!
Don’t be in denial, be informed and aware about the real risks involved with allowing these groups to meet on your property and make sure you have EXTREMELY GOOD INSURANCE COVERAGE!!!
The fact remains that she was driving drunk has nothing to do with AA. The groups have saved millions of people from this terrible disease. Dont make it sound like AA or any of the Self help groups are bad. At least she had the Balls to try and get help compaired to most of the Alcoholics out there. Dont get me wrong, what she did was horrible and she should be accountable. The groups do way more good than bad.
There is no stats that prove AA has helped millions. It is much more likely that AA has HARMED millions of people with their quackery cult dangerous religion. Actually AA and NA meetings can be very, very bad. Do you think the fact that sexual predators are invited and welcomed by AA/NA- even with meetings with minors? I think that makes for a bad self help group. Many have lost their lives, been raped and robbed by those they met at an AA/NA meeting.
This church was damaged because it is allowing AA meetings in there church. The church is putting in danger their very own parishoners by allowing criminals to rent space. Many ministers and parishioners are actually clueless to the the fact courts are mandating hardened felons to these meetings. More and more churches are asking AA meetings to leave because of their littering and behavior. Just last month a guy went to a church AA meeting and came back and broke into the church, set it on fire and stole things! That church as well put themselves in harms way by allowing AA meetings in their
church. They got a wake up call! Other churches need to think carefully before renting to violent, sick, criminals pagans.
