Rodney King was on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew along with trying other 12 step programs. In the end Alcoholics Anonymous 12 step dogma did not save him.  RIP Rodney….

Rodney King drinking, smoking marijuana before death?

Rodney King‘s fiancée has apparently revealed more details on the public figure’s recent death. King was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool by his fiancée today (June 17) in Rialto, California. The victim of police brutality in 1991, King’s court case against the officers who beat him incited the Los Angeles riots, after all four men were acquitted. TMZ reports that King’s fiancée Cynthia Kelley has apparently told friends that King, who suffered from a history of drug abuse, had been smoking marijuana and drinking prior to his death. Sources say that Kelley claims King spent most of Saturday (June 16) drinking alcohol, and smoked marijuana at some point before she went to sleep at around 2am. Kelley was later awoken at 5am, when she heard King’s screams coming from the backyard.

She allegedly saw King naked, banging on the window, and when she went to pick up her phone, heard a splash. Minutes later, she found the 47-year-old King at the bottom of the pool. Police say that there were no preliminary signs of foul play and no obvious injuries on King’s body. A drowning investigation is now underway, and a full autopsy will be carried out. Cynthia Kelley has yet to comment publicly on the circumstances of her partner’s death.
