We have come a long way in so many areas with discoveries in education, technology, health and understanding. We are fully aware of the epidemic of addiction and toll that it takes on humanity. With all of our advancements in understanding about the human mind, behavior and addiction it is time for reasonable, practical, safe, effective recovery support options to emerge!
When someone reaches the point that they feel it’s time for a change, they need to be able to find good options that can help them actually recover and get on with life! If people who are looking for a possible change think that their only option is to become a life long member of a 12 step anonymous group, it’s no wonder so many lose the will to follow through. Whatever happened to working through the problem and transitioning beyond it to actually live life? If they’ve been taught that there is no in between, in other words it’s either using drugs and alcohol or being a 12 step member, it’s no wonder so many people get discouraged. It’s time to to bring out reasonable, effective recovery techniques to help prevent their fragile window of opportunity for change from becoming obscured.
If they go back to using, they now have messages in their heads like, “you’re powerless” and “ if you use you likely will majorly screw up and die,” etc… etc… The vulnerable window transition has been dominated with the idea that it’s “N/A and A\A or else” and it’s easy to see why some choose or else! Now they’re likely to be more at risk because of feeling confused and isolated with the intensity of experiencing the lack of good options.
Some people just don’t see themselves being an anonymous 12 step member for life, telling the same stories over and over again, calling themselves addicts 20 years after the fact.
Let’s bring out the advancements in recovery MAKING THEM AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE, WHETHER THEY HAVE MONEY OR NOT! I’m sure more people will successfully recover and move on to live a full, healthy life when they discover reasonable, sensible support groups are available to help them through their vulnerable time of transition!
Here is a quote from an article about her song Step by Step.
‘ Step by Step was written for Houston by Annie Lennox – “Annie sent me this really beautiful, spiritual song, and it fit the groove of the album, right away” – and it has a more rocking beat. But it is a curious choice for a destined chart-buster: with its chorus line of “step by step, day by day”, it sounds like an anthem for Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Step programmes.’
How disgusting. Is Annie Lennox in AA? Poor Whitney. I bet no one told her she had a choice. How about Smart or all the other options out there now. How bout telling her she didn’t need rehab.
