NA AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

Here is a day in the life of judges in Pittsburg PA ordering criminals to AA/NA left and right throughout the day.Where would AA/NA be without the free flowing unlimited amount of convicted criminals coming into their rooms? They would not have the financial support of our government by them mandating religious AA/NA meetings, and even going so far as to mandate that attendees get a sponsor!

Mandated AA is so common that it is standard practice to let offenders on home detention be allowed to leave the house for AA/NA meetings. This is not just a Salem County practice but a nationwide practice.Just like the common practice sending minors to the same meetings.

According to Miller, the Salem County Home Detention Program provides a new innovative means of offering low-risk offenders an alternative to incarceration.

“What we do is fixate a GPS monitoring bracelet upon someone’s ankle and we monitor them 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week,” said Lt. Alan Nobles, who oversees the program for the sheriff’s office.

Nobles said the program allows offenders to seek and maintain employment, educational programs, and enforce other structured activities ordered by the courts; such as community service, alcoholics anonymous, or narcotics anonymous.

Inmates are also screened once a week for alcohol and drugs, he said.
