Glen Lyn Mayor Thomas “Rick” Ould was sentenced Monday to five months in jail for firing a handgun into the air and putting the gun to the head of his wife during a domestic incident, special prosecutor Mike Fleenor said.As part of an agreement, Ould pleaded guilty in Giles County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court to assault and battery and brandishing a firearm, according to Fleenor.

Ould will also be placed on supervised probation for two years, will participate in a mental health evaluation, will complete mental health treatment, will continue taking Alcoholics Anonymous classes and will not have contact with his wife, Fleenor said.

At a bond hearing in February, Fleenor told the court that according to a police investigation, Ould threatened to shoot his wife with a .40-caliber handgun as she tried to leave the couple’s home Jan. 29 after an argument.

Ould, 57, was charged with misdemeanor reckless use of a firearm, brandishing a firearm and domestic assault against his wife, Carol.

The reckless handling of a firearm charge was dismissed Monday, Fleenor said.

Police found two .40-caliber spent shell casings at the scene of the incident, said Fleenor, who was assigned to the case after Giles County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bobby Lilly recused himself. Fleenor is the Pulaski County commonwealth’s attorney.

At first, Ould denied to police that he threatened to kill his wife, but later changed his story saying, “I would, or I will shoot her,” Fleenor previously told the court.

Town officials have said that Glen Lyn Vice Mayor Rhonda Sartin would take over Ould’s governmental duties while he awaited trial. Ould’s status as mayor was not immediately available Monday.

Ould was twice denied bond before Monday’s hearing. He is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail.

Ould’s lawyer, Richard Chidester , said at a bond hearing in February that Ould likely suffers from mental health issues, and that erratic behavior before the incident had alarmed his extended family and his wife.
