A South Daytona man is facing criminal charges after an investigation revealed he’d financially taken advantage of a blind Holly Hill man he met in Alcoholics Anonymous, police said. Sunrise Park Holly Hill AA and NA Meetings

Larry Tuttle, 59, was arrested Wednesday and charged with fraudulent use of personal identification information amounting to $5,000 or more, fraudulent use of a credit card more than $100 and grand theft, records show. Criminals in Daytona AA Meetings.

Tuttle spent nearly $10,000, which included a cruise to Mexico, at the expense of Jason Derrico by opening three credit cards in Derrico’s name, Holly Hill police said.

Police were alerted to the possible fraud in July, and when they met with Tuttle Aug. 25 he claimed he’d been given permission to apply for the three credit cards in Derrico’s name, according to the affidavit.

The two men met at an AA meeting in 2013 and Tuttle, who claimed he’d been sober 30 years, told Derrico, 36, he wanted to be his sponsor, according to a charging affidavit.

Derrico said he initially enjoyed Tuttle’s company, but he began to grow uncomfortable when Tuttle wanted Derrico to pull away from his blindness support group and made inquiries about Derrico’s finances, according to the affidavit. Derrico told police Tuttle would sometimes yell at him if he did not disclose certain information.

About a year ago, Tuttle told Derrico his trailer had burned down, so Derrico allowed Tuttle to stay the night, during which Tuttle went through Derrico’s financial paperwork and said he could take better care of those matters, according to the affidavit. Derrico told police the two of them would make trips around the county, and once to Fort Lauderdale, where Tuttle would buy gas and make other purchases with what Derrico thought was Tuttle’s own money.

Derrico said he did remember Tuttle asking him to make several purchases, which made Derrico feel like he was being taken advantage of, so he cut contact with Tuttle in January, according to the affidavit. In July, Derrico began getting calls from a financial institution about owing money on a credit card that listed Tuttle as an authorized user.

Derrico closed the accounts, which Tuttle tried to reopen, according to the affidavit. Police said Tuttle made some payments on the accounts to keep them open as long as possible.

Tuttle was being held Friday at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $22,500 bail.

    • Yes this was an awesome piece and a must see. In Holly Hill Florida NA Daytona and AA Daytona are still harassing local citizens and even stealing from each other. Plus they are free loaders that refuse to pay rent in Sunrise Park.

      • You mean they are not self supporting? That does not surprise me. I feel for your citizens Anti D. I now can see what you are raising awareness at the grass roots level.

I’ve been a little feisty in my posts lately to ‘steppers’ who mindlessly defend the indefensible – and it still boggles my mind that they risk getting annoyed and/or angry at us for our simple requests to at leats autonomously try to make the rooms safer. I know that they tout anger as a dubious luxury better left for normal folks. So let us be angry at the exploitation of young people, women, children and unsuspecting vulnerbable adults. The evidence is stacked against them and they still refuse to see it. So sad.

        • Hi Marchon, always glad to see you here and I really enjoy your comments. You are right both AA and NA Daytona have been hogging the park pavilion for years, running people out of it and harassing them plus refusing to pay their way like the 7th tradition states.

But their behavior went from a local issue and grew into a anti AA and NA awareness campaign. So much for doing what is best for the whole of the organization.

Maybe it was meant to be, so we would learn how bad AA and NA is for people and spread the word.
I have learned a lot in 4 years and I think we have taught people globally more about the inherent dangers of AA, NA and all 12 step programs.

  1. Perfect example of length of sobriety meaning nothing and the 12 steps being useless to a criminal or someone with personality disorders. Guess Mr. Tuttle got the wrong idea when he spread the message: ” Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs ” The man has no principles.

Maybe Gary understands because this is his idea of acceptance??

    • In what way are you sick? Maybe that is why there is so many sick puppies in the rooms because you tell people they are sick and diseased for life.

This NA Daytona member is one sick puppy even though he states he had been sober for 20 years. Another predator in the halls of AA.

    • Dear Gary,

Clearly you are an AA member with that taught excuse for criminal behavior. You are the one who is sick for attempting to normalizing this type of criminal activity. This criminal is not sick, he is a predator who chose a vulnerable person to rob.

Why on earth are you not posting shock and horror at the nature of this crime? ? Because you are used to it in AA – That’s why.

  2. Daytona AA members never cease to amaze me with their predatory behavior!
Stealing from a blind man that you are sponsoring? Sick Sick Sick……
