Woman gets in series of accidents, tells police she was heading to AA meeting

A Michigan woman who is accused of causing several car accidents Monday later told officers she was on her way to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The 42-year-old, who has not been named, failed sobriety tests but had no alcohol in her system, police say. After she was arrested, however, police say they found prescription pills in her purse, including some that were not prescribed to her. She’s accused of hitting one car, knocking it into another and then hitting an SUV, which crashed into the lobby of an adult education building.

A 61-year-old Aiken woman was detained for DUI after she wrecked her car on Silver Bluff Road last week – while she was en route to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened near the intersection of Silver Bluff and Dougherty roads about 5:15 p.m. on May 1, according to an incident report. Officers found a 2007 Lexus with damage to the front left end of the vehicle.

Officers asked the female driver if she was injured, to which she responded no, according to the report. They could detect an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver, who exhibited other signs of intoxication.

Before administering field sobriety tests, officers asked the woman if she had been drinking, and she said no, according to the report.

“She stated that she was on her way to an AA meeting,” the report stated. When asked again if she had been drinking, the woman said she had about 4 ounces of vodka.

The woman was taken into custody after failing multiple field sobriety tests and charged with DUI-first. She provided a breath sample, which indicated a blood-alcohol content of .20 percent.
