PARENTS BE CAREFUL LETTING YOUR TEEN ASSOCIATE WITH AA MEMBERS AND THE FELLOWSHIP OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

Why should parents be careful about letting their teens associate with AA members from the Santa Clarita Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous?

The Santa Clarita Valley (SVC) Central Office of Alcoholics Anonymous is located at 26951 Ruether Ave., Suite B-6, Santa Clarita, CA 91351 and acts as the central focal point of Alcoholics Anonymous claiming no control over the events they coordinate, promote and advertise in that area of Los Angeles County (http://www.aascv.org/). Alcoholics Anonymous actively recruits from jails and prison for members under their “Correction Committees”, from mental institutions under their “Hospital & Institution” (H&I) committees and from the probation, parole and court systems under their “Cooperation with the Professional Community” (CPC) committees. The members of AA will tell you that the majority of the members do not come from these outlets and through the last survey they published, which only polled around 7,000 members, only 11% of the members came from these outlets. Depending upon outside sources this number is actually between 45-55%.

Why should this be important information for parents to know if they allow their children to go to AA meetings, Al-Anon or Alateen in Santa Clarita Valley (SVC)? The simple reason is because this particular Intergroup co-mingles Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon and Alateen members and if a teen is attacked physically, financially or sexually they will be made to blame for the attack. Use Google and find the physical, financial or sexual attacks in Alcoholics Anonymous and you will find that the Victim is almost always made to be the reason for the attack and the AA Intergroup or group will be called blameless and they will blame your teen. You and your teen will be told repeatedly that your teen was at fault and that you can’t hold the people holding the event responsible for what happened. Here is an example that happens every year that co-mingles all three groups that happened this year, luckily without any incidents that are known and reported.

Santa Clarita Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Convention – Annual Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) event with Al-Anon & Alateen participation. 9th Annual. October 19, 20, & 21, 2012. Hyatt Valencia & Santa Clarita Conference Center. 24500 Town Center Drive. Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County, California.

Why is co-mingling of these groups dangerous? Here are the requirements for Sponsorship in Alateen:

Sponsor Requirements
Sponsors must:
1. Be Al-Anon members
2. Be 21 years old 3. Have two years in Al-Anon (in addition to time in Alateen)
4. Not have been convicted of a felony
5. Not have been charged with child abuse or similar
6. Not have demonstrated emotional problems that could result in harm to a teen
7. Not be under investigation by child welfare or similar agency

Very few of the AA members that are co-mingling with the Al-Anon and Alateen members would pass these requirements.

As proof that your teen will be blamed as the victim, look at the Karla Brada case that resides in the same area and Alcoholics Anonymous Intergroup. While Karla was an adult, the results will be the same for your teen…. Please protect your children from this abuse, don’t let AA blame your teen if they are a victim in the Santa Clarita Intergroup in Los Angeles County, California like what is happening to Karla Brada.

Karla Brada, 31 [Updated]

Died Sept. 1, 2011

Karla Brada, a 31-year-old white woman, died Thursday, Sept. 1, in the 20700 block of Plum Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Brada’s boyfriend said he found her unresponsive Thursday morning, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. The boyfriend contacted authorities, who arrived and pronounced the woman dead.

Coroner’s records show Brada had some trauma to her body, but a final cause of death has been deferred pending additional laboratory tests.

Sheriff’s homicide Det. Ray Lugo, who is handling the case, said Brada’s boyfriend is a suspect in the death. He was arrested but had to be released while detectives gather more evidence for the homicide investigation, Lugo said.

[Update Jan. 12, 2012: Coroner’s officials later determined that Brada died from asphyxia and her death was deemed a homicide.]

[Update Jan. 26, 2012: Brada’s boyfriend, Eric Allen Earle, a 40-year-old white man, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the victim’s death, Det. Lugo said.

Earle was apprehended in Northridge by the U.S. Marshal Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is currently being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the inmate reception center in downtown.

Lugo said Earle will be charged with one count of murder.

According to investigators, Earle has a history of domestic violence against women. In August 2011, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting Brada, however she decided to not move forward with the case and authorities were unable to prosecute him.

Lugo said Earle and Brada had been dating for two months before she was killed. At the time of the incident, they were living together, he said.

In a statement sent to the Times, Brada’s mother said about the arrest, “This is a big relief for not only Karla’s family, but several other families who have felt threatened by Eric’s release since he has a long history of domestic violence against other women. Unfortunately, we did not learn about his history of domestic violence until Karla’s death. It is too late for Karla and her family, but we hope putting him away for good will save another family from this tragedy and pain.”

Anyone with additional information about the death of Karla Brada is asked to contact Det. Lugo at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.]

Again, use Google and find the comments people are saying about this death and read how the AA members are blaming the victim. It is something that could happen to your teen if you let them anywhere near Alcoholics Anonymous in Los Angeles County and especially the Santa Clarita Intergroup.

A new Alateen meeting has been established in Rehoboth, Delaware Alcoholics Anonymous General Service Area 12 at the at Epworth United Methodist Church on Glade Road. Alateen is for teens aged 13-19 and is monitored by Al-Anon members who have a very high standard requirements to be with these children and young adults that many Alcoholics Anonymous members would not be able to pass because many of them are recruited from jails and prison for members under their “Correction Committees”, from mental institutions under their “Hospital & Institution” (H&I) committees and from the probation, parole and court systems under their “Cooperation with the Professional Community” (CPC) committees (http://www.delawareaa.org/).

Weekly Alateen support group meets at Epworth
    Jan 02, 2013

A new weekly Alateen support group will be meeting every Monday evening at 6 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church on Glade Road in Rehoboth. Alateen is free and open to anyone from 13 to 19 years of age who has a friend or family member who struggles with a drinking problem.

The group provides fellowship and support and helps members learn from others who share similar experiences. At an Alateen meeting, meet others who share feelings and frustrations, if not the exact situation.

Alateen also provides insight on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous which aid in ending alcohol and substance abuse. Alateen is allied with Al-Anon which is for adults, but in Alateen, the focus is on teenagers from ages 13 to 19.

In Al-Anon and Alateen, people come together to learn a better way of life, to find happiness whether the problem drinker is still drinking or not. For the safety of attendees, all Alateen meetings are sponsored by two adult members of Al-Anon. ( why can’t AA do this to protect teens?)

An Al-Anon meeting is held at the same time in another room if looking for adult support in dealing with another person’s drinking problem. The Alateen meeting will be held in the first room on the left when entering from the Bayside entrance.

For more information about this meeting call 302-893-0613, or to learn more about Alateen, call 866-460-4070 or go to http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/index.php.

Alateen members and their parents should be aware that co-mingling with Alcoholics Anonymous events is very dangerous and the victim will be blamed for any trouble that they get into and the planning, coordinating, promotion and advertising of the event by any Alcoholics Anonymous Group or Intergroup will be held NOT accountable, which is different then Alateen. Please do not co-mingle your loved ones with these groups. Please be aware that Alcoholics Anonymous members actively bid on hosting events for young people in Alcoholics Anonymous called the “Delaware Conference of Young People in AA (DECYPAA http://www.decypaa.org/)

Please heed these warnings because during 2012 and 2011 there were many murders (Ex. Karla Brada, Danita Brown), rapes, assaults (pregnant woman shot in the back of the head believed to have been done by court mandated AA member Omar Martinez who is still on the loose) and financial scams (Ex. Richard Mayfield, Jenifer Devine, Timothy D. Gilbert) perpetrated by AA members who gained positions of trust through Alcoholics Anonymous. One AA member Randolf Pozdo even filmed sexual acts with his Sponcees children aged 4 and 7 and posted them on the Internet (for which he is now serving 30 years in jail). Please be careful when interacting with AA members and any of their events because the above examples are only a few of the reported problems in Alcoholics Anonymous and many go unreported.

  2. Hi Dana- this is a nice article JR wrote. He is an excellent researcher.

I liked your point how at least in the prisons there are guards to protect the kids. To take that a step further anyone who has been involved in the H&I ( Hospitals and Institutions) division of AA- knows how difficult it is just having an AA member from the out side start meetings on the inside of jails, prisons and juvenile detention facilities.
You have to pass certain criteria by the jails to be allowed in. Some don’t even allow them. Yet even though prisons and juvenile detentions facilities have security, and guidelines on who can come nd go on their property, once minors and criminals are released all of that goes out the window. No safety measures anymore period. Not even for minors. It is ironic that you would be safer an a prison held AA or NA meeting, but not on an outside one. Hardly anyone seems concerned either. Why are not the laws in place to protect minors being enforced?

It shows how much power AA has in this United States. More so than I believe any other country period.

  3. Hello and God Bless. Such a true story and such tragic results. Parents have no idea the dangers that are prevalent behind the doors of these groups. In this day and time, our children need our protection more then ever. It reminds me of that old TV show “Scared Straight”. The one where they used to take the troubled kids inside of prisons to show them what life was like behind bars. The only difference here is, AA and these other groups do not have any “Guards” looking out for the kids.

It does not take a vivid imagination to figure out what would happen to a child left inside a jail or prison, UN-supervised to know what the outcome would be. Yet we as adults allow this to happen every time we place “kids” in these above mentioned groups. It is sad to think that this very thing is being repeated every day by Courts, Churches and Parents. Nice article JR.

  4. Hi Massive! Here is the direct link you mentioned about your saferecovery radio show. Lots of great interviews!

AA is not a place for teens, no matter what AA says. They are just trying to get new customers like the cigarette companies are doing. At least the cigarette companies have warning labels that smoking can kill you. That is what AA needs to do. ‘AA meetings can be hazardous to your health’ warning labels!

  5. Hi Parents who are reading this. I went to AA in 1975 when I was 18 years old. I too was sexually preyed on. Its called 13 stepping.

You can read all the stories on http://www.stop13stepinaa.wordpress.com

I have spoken to women from as far away as South America who are being preyed on by sick AA men directly in meetings.

Please spread the word and steer clear from AA or NA. Listen to blog talk radio for more choices and books to read. DO NOT disempower your youth.

  6. Do you know someone who has experienced sexual assault, rape, or stalking? Here are some startling truths:
Young people ages 12 to 19 experience the highest rates of rape and sexual assault of any group

Those aged 18 and 19 experience the highest rates of stalking.
One in three adolescent girls experiences physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, which according to Justice department statistics is THE most common type of violence affecting youth.

With these facts why does AA put the most vulnerable population to be abused and co mingle them with violent felons and rapists? This is just insane.
